This Guide will help you ensure that the Ethernet Connection on Windows Vista is correctly configured for use with an ADSL Modem Router.
Click Start and Control Panel.
In Control Panel click Network and Internet.
Note: If the Control Panel is in Classic View just click Network and Sharing Center.
In Network and Internet click Network and Sharing Center.
In the Network and Sharing Center under Tasks on the left hand side, click Manage network connections.
In Manage Network Connections, double click Local Area Connection.
The Local Area Connection Status window will appear. Click Properties.
In the LAN Properties select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
Note: You can assign IP address or DNS details here to troubleshoot just as you would in WinXP/2000 leaving static settings is not recommended for standard Ethernet configurations.
