To test your broadband (or dialup) speed, you can download a file from the Primus network to see what speed your connection can achieve.
Primus has special servers setup in each state just for the purpose of testing connections speeds, we recommend using our test servers over popular web based ones as we can't guarantee the speeds you'll get off those public servers as we can not monitor the traffic or loads on those systems like we can our own Speed test servers.
To simplify testing your connection speed we've developed simple to use Speed test programs for Windows and Mac.
However if you are unable to use the Windows or Mac Speed test programs you can download the test files directly from our Speed test servers in each state.
Here's a breakdown of the speed you should expect: | Connection Type | Approx. Speed |
|---|
| 256 Kbits/sec | Around 20 KB/sec | | 512 Kbits/sec | Around 50 KB/sec | 1.5 Mbits/sec (and above) | Around 150 KB/sec (or more) |
Tip: If you've gone over your download limit and have been slowed down, you should expect around 7 KB/sec in the speed test.
For Windows Users: When you download the file, if you're using Internet Explorer, right click and click Save Target As or in Firefox right click and save link as.
For Mac Users: When you download the file, control-click (or right click if you have a mighty mouse) on the link to bring up the download menu. Select Download Linked File if you're using Safari, or Download Link Target... if you're using Firefox or Camino. You'll be asked to choose a download location (or the file will be automatically saved to your default location) - we recommend saving the file to your Desktop, as this will make finding (and deleting) the file a lot easier later on.
One last thing: these download links will only work if you're connected to the Primus network. Choose your region:Victoria and Tasmania New South Wales and ACT Queensland South Australia and NT Western Australia
Victoria and Tasmania
New South Wales and ACT
Queensland South Australia and NT Western Australia If the speed you get when you download the file isn't what it should be (check the table at the top of this page), please let our support team know so we can assist you. If the speed is correct but it just isn't fast enough, have a look at our broadband plans to find a plan that's right for you! |
