TP-Link VX220: Advanced Configuration

 

These instructions explain how to enable/disable the WiFi network:

  1. Browse to http://192.168.1.1 from a device connected to your modem via WiFi or ethernet cable
  2. Log into your modem (the default credentials can be found on the label on the back of the modem under the heading Default Access)
  3. Click Wireless in the menu on the left
  4. Under the Wireless Settings heading, tick/untick the box next to Wireless Network to enable/disable the WiFi
  5. If enabling, take note of the Network Name (SSID), this is the name of the network that you'll need to search for when connecting from your device
  6. Click Save
  1. Browse to http://192.168.1.1 from a device connected to your modem via WiFi or ethernet cable
  2. Log into your modem (the default credentials can be found on the label on the back of the modem under the heading Default Access)
  3. Click Wireless in the menu on the left
  4. Under the Wireless Settings heading, type a new password in the Password field
  5. Click Save
  6. Note: any devices previously connected via WiFi will need to re-join the network with the new password. You may have to remove the saved network from your device first, in order to remove the old password.

Band Steering is a feature of the modem that automatically switches your devices between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies depending on which is most suitable at the time.

If you would prefer to manually choose which frequency to connect each of your devices to, you can follow these instructions to disable Band Steering:

  1. Browse to http://192.168.1.1 from a device connected to your modem via WiFi or ethernet cable
  2. Log into your modem (the default credentials can be found on the label on the back of the modem under the heading Default Access)
  3. At the top of the page click Advanced
  4. Click Wireless and then Wireless Settings in the menu on the left
  5. Untick the box next to the heading Band Steering
  6. Tabs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz appear - enable each of these as needed by ticking the box next to the heading Wireless Radio and click save

You will now see separate networks for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.
